The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) invites students to participate in the ARSO Essay Competition 2025. Participants are required to submit an essay on the topic: “Role of Education about Standardisation (EaS) in shaping Education and African Students for the sustainable Development opportunities and challenges in the 21st Century.”

Prizes:

  • 1st Prize: Bursary worth R150,000
  • 2nd Prize: Bursary worth R130,000
  • 3rd Prize: Bursary worth R120,000
  • 4th Prize: Cash prize of R15,000
  • 5th Prize: Cash prize of R15,000

The top five national winners will have their essays forwarded to the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) for the continental competition.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Currently registered at a tertiary institution recognized by the National Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education in South Africa
  • Aged 35 years or younger

Note: Foreign students enrolled in South African tertiary institutions should submit their essays to their country of origin.

  • Essay adhering to the following guidelines:
    • Written in English
    • Between 1,000 and 1,200 words
    • Typed in size 12, Century Gothic font, double-spaced
    • Original work; plagiarism checks will be conducted
    • Demonstrates creativity, innovation, and understanding of the theme
    • Properly formatted, structured, justified, and referenced
    • Only one essay submission per applicant
  • Copy of Identity Document or Passport
