The Free State Provincial Government is committed to empowering the youth of the province by offering full-time bursaries for the 2025 academic year. This initiative aims to address scarce and critical skills in areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Commercial-related fields, and Psychological studies. The bursary is intended to support deserving students from low-income households who reside in the Free State Province.

The programme covers tuition fees, textbooks, and accommodation, fostering equitable access to higher education and contributing to economic growth both provincially and nationally.

Requirements

General Criteria for All Categories:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Reside in the Free State Province.
  • Completed Matric in the Free State.
  • Household income not exceeding R600,000 per annum.
  • Not currently receiving other sponsorships (No Double Dipping).
  • Accepted or provisionally accepted to study at a recognized institution in South Africa.
  • Studying towards qualifications in critical/scarce skills areas such as:
    • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
    • Commercial fields (e.g., Accounting, Economics, Actuarial Science).
    • Psychological studies (focus on Early Childhood Development).

Additional Categories:

  • Category A: Top Achievers: Must be identified by the Free State Department of Education as a top-performing learner.
  • Category B: Missing Middle: Annual household income between R50,000 and R70,000. Must achieve a minimum of 50% in Mathematics and Science (or other major subjects).
  • Category C: Marginalised Students: Students from vulnerable backgrounds with no breadwinner, SASSA dependents, or other similar circumstances.
