ABOUT THE BURSARY

The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) established the Inter-bursary Support Programme for postgraduate studies to support capacity development in key strategic and priority areas identified in key departmental strategies. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is supporting the DSI in the development of skills in these areas.

WHO CAN APPLY

Please Note: The CSIR-DSI Inter-Bursary Support Programme applications are restricted to those students whose degrees are aligned to specific thematic research areas and research themes/technology streams. Supervisor endorsement and motivation will be required with each bursary application for Masters and Doctoral applications.

Preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and people living with disabilities.

CURRENT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
All students accepted for- or registered for full-time studies at any South African public university.
All students who intend to register or are registered for the following:
Honours/4th year Engineering/Postgraduate Diploma
Masters
Doctoral

HOW TO APPLY

Please read these notes and instructions carefully before completing the form. Be sure to read every section and ensure that the information you provide is accurate.

  • Applications that are incomplete and that include misrepresentations will immediately be disregarded.
  • Please ensure that you attach ALL of the Required Documents
  • Closing dates per application type:
    • CSIR Inter-Bursary Support Programme closes: Tuesday, August 31, 2021
  • Bursary allocation year per application type:
    • CSIR Inter-Bursary Support Programme will be allocated for the 2022 academic year
  • It is your responsibility to apply for entrance for your intended course and university and to ensure that you are able to meet the entrance requirements stipulated for your course.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to find a suitable supervisor and to ensure the supervisor supports the application.
  • Please ensure that you complete all the sections of this application form.
  • Please select the correct funding opportunity when completing your application.


You will receive a confirmation e-mail once we have received your application.

Communication will be sent to all the applicants within two months of the closing date of the applications to notify students of their application status.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Please prepare the following documents:

  • A certified copy of your barcoded ID or Passport or proof of Permanent Residency (for international students).
  • Recommendation letter by Supervisor (compulsory for Master’s and Doctoral applicants).
  • A copy of your CV.
  • A copy of your Fees Statement or NSFAS Contract if applicable.
  • All high school applicants must attach a certified copy of their grade 11 reports and matric reports to date. If applicable, please provide proof of provisional university acceptance.
  • All tertiary students must submit certified copies of their matric results and their most recent official transcript. For applicants that have enrolled at multiple institutions during their tertiary studies, please combine all your transcripts into one document.
  • Proof of registration for students currently enrolled at a tertiary institution.
  • For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
