The Diploma in Agriculture: Crop Production at MUT prepares students theoretically and practically for careers in agricultural development and extension, with a focus on promoting sound agricultural practice in crop farming. Students develop skills in soil science, crop agronomy, pest and disease management, irrigation, and post-harvest handling across South Africa's diverse cropping systems including maize, vegetables, sugar cane, and horticultural crops. The WIL component gives students exposure to commercial farming and government extension services.

Crop Production Technician – Manages planting, pest control, irrigation, and harvesting operations on commercial farms growing field crops or vegetables in South Africa.
Agricultural Extension Officer – Provides technical advice and capacity building to smallholder and emerging farmers on behalf of provincial departments of agriculture.
Agronomy Advisor – Advises farmers on soil health, fertilisation, seed selection, and crop management practices for input suppliers and agribusinesses.
Farm Manager – Plans and oversees all farming operations on a commercial crop farm, including labour, inputs, equipment, and marketing of produce.
Food Safety Inspector – Monitors agricultural produce for pesticide residues, quality standards, and export compliance on behalf of DAFF or private certification bodies.
