The Diploma in Nautical Studies at DUT provides the maritime training and theoretical knowledge required for an international career at sea. Durban, South Africa's busiest port, makes KwaZulu-Natal a natural home for this qualification, which covers marine mathematics, marine science, electronic navigation, shipboard operations, and communication. Graduates begin their sea career as Deck Cadets, and through requisite sea-time, further study, and ancillary courses, can progress to the command of ocean-going vessels or roles within Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA).
