The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Zululand examines the structures, institutions, and dynamics that shape social life in South Africa and beyond. The programme engages with theories of race, class, gender, inequality, urbanisation, and social change — with particular attention to the complex social realities of post-apartheid South Africa and the communities of KwaZulu-Natal. Graduates develop strong research, analytical, and communication skills that are applicable across social policy, community development, research, education, and the non-profit sector.

Community Development Facilitator – Support grassroots development initiatives addressing poverty, inequality, and social exclusion in under-served South African communities.
Human Resources Specialist – Apply sociological understanding of workplace dynamics, organisational culture, and labour relations in HR management roles.
Educator – Teach Social Sciences, Life Orientation, or Economics in secondary schools after completing a PGCE or postgraduate teaching qualification.
