The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of South Africa (Unisa) is a four-year open distance learning professional law degree that qualifies graduates to practise as attorneys or advocates in South Africa's legal system. The programme covers all major areas of South African law — constitutional, criminal, civil procedure, contract, property, family, commercial, and labour law — developing the legal reasoning, research, and advocacy skills required by the Legal Practice Council (LPC). As Africa's largest distance learning institution, Unisa's LLB makes a legal career accessible to South Africans who cannot attend traditional residential law programmes, including working adults and those in underserved communities. At least 50% of available spaces are reserved for South African NSC applicants, with monthly selection cycles for qualifying candidates.
Admission requirements: National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Degree endorsement and at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning, or a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption, or a Higher Certificate in Law or Criminal Justice (NQF Level 5, average 60%+), or a 360-credit Diploma in Law or related field (NQF Level 6). Selection is monthly and competitive; at least 50% of spaces reserved for NSC completers.
