Details

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) is the University of Johannesburg's flagship humanities degree, offering one of the most flexible undergraduate programmes in South Africa. Students choose two or more major subjects from a wide range of disciplines spanning languages, social sciences, communication studies, philosophy, history, politics, psychology, and more. This flexibility allows students to tailor their degree to their interests and career goals, whether in the public sector, NGOs, media, or corporate environments.

Offered at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, the degree is designed to develop critical thinkers, effective communicators, and independent researchers. The Faculty of Humanities at UJ is consistently ranked among the best in Sub-Saharan Africa, providing access to world-class academic expertise and a vibrant intellectual environment.

Admission requires a minimum APS of 26 (excluding Life Orientation) and at least 60% in English (Home Language or First Additional Language). The BA at UJ is offered at two APS thresholds — 26 and 28 — depending on the specific entrance route and campus. Life Orientation is excluded from the APS calculation. NCV applicants are not considered for this programme.
