Details

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences at the University of Pretoria is a three-year degree in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences that provides training in the basic medical sciences — including clinical anatomy, physical anthropology, and cell biology. Students work with human material including skeletal material and perform cadaver dissection, developing an intimate understanding of human body structure and its clinical relevance. The programme prepares graduates for careers in health science research, anatomy education, forensic science, and pathology, and provides a foundation for postgraduate study in health professions including medicine, physiotherapy, or occupational therapy. UP's Medical Sciences programme has unique access to substantial anatomical collections and links to the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Career Prospects

Anatomist / Researcher – Conduct research in anatomy, physical anthropology, or morphology at South African universities, the MRC, or international health science research institutions.
Forensic Anthropologist – Apply skeletal analysis and physical anthropology to forensic investigations for South African police services, pathology institutes, or human rights organisations.
