Details

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BChD) at the University of Pretoria is a five-year professional degree that qualifies graduates to practise as dentists, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Students develop clinical competencies in preventive dentistry, restorative dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, and prosthodontics — covering the full scope of general dental practice. UP's dental programme includes extensive clinical training in the School of Dentistry's dental clinics and affiliated hospital settings, providing hands-on patient care experience from the early years of study. South Africa has a significant shortage of registered dentists — particularly in the public sector — making dental graduates valuable contributors to oral health improvement across the country.
