The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences at NWU is a three-year degree that examines the natural environment — its physical, chemical, biological, and geographic components — and equips students to address South Africa's pressing environmental challenges including land degradation, water scarcity, mining impacts, and climate change. Students select a combination of disciplines from geology, botany, zoology, microbiology, chemistry, geography, and tourism, developing an interdisciplinary skill set to analyse and manage complex environmental systems. Offered at Mahikeng and Potchefstroom, the programme takes advantage of South Africa's diverse landscapes and rich natural heritage as living laboratories. Graduates are equipped to pursue environmental impact assessment, conservation management, water science, or geological careers across South Africa's mining, government, and environmental consulting sectors.
