The Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge Systems at the University of Venda is a pioneering programme that documents, studies, and promotes the knowledge traditions of African communities, including traditional medicine, ecological knowledge, oral histories, cultural practices, and governance systems. South Africa's diverse indigenous knowledge heritage — including that of the Vhavenda, Tsonga, and Sotho-Tswana peoples — is increasingly recognised as a resource for development, healthcare, and environmental management, and UNIVEN is one of the few universities in the world to offer a dedicated undergraduate degree in this field.

Cultural Heritage Officer – Manages the preservation and promotion of indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage at SAHRA, provincial heritage bodies, and museums.
Traditional Health Practitioner Liaison – Facilitates collaboration between traditional healers and formal healthcare systems in communities and government health departments.
Policy Advisor (IKS) – Advises government departments on the integration of indigenous knowledge into environmental management, health, and education policy frameworks.
Community Education Facilitator – Develops and delivers programmes that promote African knowledge systems in schools, community centres, and TVET colleges.
