The Australian Government offers fully funded long-term scholarships through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for the 2027 academic year. Australia Awards Scholarships enable students from developing countries in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate studies at leading Australian universities and TAFE institutions.

Students from 25 African countries, 15 Asian countries, and 15 Pacific nations are eligible. Priority fields for African applicants include Agriculture and Food Security, Climate Change, Foreign Policy and International Security, Gender Disability and Social Inclusion, and Mining and Energy.

The scholarship covers full tuition, return flights, living allowances, health cover, English language training, and fieldwork support for the entire duration of approved study programmes including preparatory courses.

Requirements

  • Be a citizen of an eligible African, Asian, or Pacific country as listed in the programme guidelines
  • Be 25 years or older on 1 February 2027
  • Hold a completed undergraduate degree equivalent to an Australian undergraduate degree
  • Not currently hold or be undertaking a master’s degree or equivalent qualification
  • Have a minimum of 5 years post-graduate work experience in a field related to your intended field of study
  • Be currently employed at the time of application
  • Meet minimum English language proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0, TOEFL iBT 84 with minimum 21 in all subtests, or PTE Academic 58 overall with no communicative skill score less than 50 (scores must be valid on 1 January 2026, unless first language is English and education undertaken in English)
  • Not have previously received a long-term Australia Award
  • Be willing to study full-time at a participating Australian university or TAFE institution
  • Be willing to return to home country for a minimum of 2 years after completing the scholarship
  • Demonstrate commitment to driving change and contributing to development in your home country
