The Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at Wits is a three-year degree providing a broad foundation in the life sciences, with specialisations available in biodiversity, ecology and conservation, organismal biology, applied bioinformatics, biochemistry and cell biology, genetics and developmental biology, and microbiology and biotechnology. All applicants must write the National Benchmark Tests. South Africa is a megadiverse country — one of the world's 17 biodiversity hotspots — and Wits biological sciences graduates contribute to conservation, environmental management, biotechnology, and medical research. The programme draws on Wits's rich research infrastructure including the Life Sciences Museum and Origins Centre.
