The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Plant Production, at the University of Limpopo trains students in the science and management of crop production systems — including cereals, vegetables, subtropical fruits, and legumes — with a strong practical orientation toward Limpopo's diverse agricultural zones. Students study agronomy, soil science, plant pathology, entomology, irrigation, and post-harvest management, developing the technical expertise to optimise crop yields sustainably. Limpopo is South Africa's premier region for tropical and subtropical crop production, making plant production specialists from UL highly relevant to the local farming sector and to national food security.

Agronomist – Advises commercial and smallholder farmers on crop variety selection, planting schedules, fertilisation, and integrated pest management for input supply companies, cooperatives, and government extension services.
Crop Protection Specialist – Manages integrated pest, disease, and weed management programmes for seed companies, agrochemical firms, and large-scale farming operations across Limpopo and other provinces.
Irrigation Specialist – Designs, installs, and manages drip and overhead irrigation systems for high-value vegetable, citrus, and subtropical fruit production operations across South Africa.
Plant Breeder / Seed Technologist – Works in plant breeding research, seed production, and variety certification for seed companies and the ARC’s crop improvement programmes.
Agricultural Extension Officer – Provides technical crop production advice and demonstration support to smallholder farmers for provincial departments of agriculture and rural development NGOs.
