Life Orientation and APS at TUT

When applying to Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), one of the key requirements is your Admission Point Score (APS). This score is calculated from your high school results and helps determine whether you qualify for your chosen programme. A question many students ask is whether Life Orientation is part of the APS calculation at TUT.

At TUT, Life Orientation is not included in the APS calculation. Although it is compulsory in high school and provides important life skills, it does not add points when your admission score is calculated.

How APS is Calculated at TUT

TUT calculates your APS using your six best subjects, excluding Life Orientation. This means:

  • Subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, Life Sciences, or Languages are considered in your APS.
  • Each programme may have its own APS minimums and subject requirements, so always check the faculty requirements for your chosen qualification.

What This Means for Applicants

If you plan to apply at TUT:

  • Do not include Life Orientation when calculating your APS.
  • Make sure you know the minimum APS and subject-specific requirements for the qualification you want to study.
  • Work on achieving good results in your other subjects, as these will determine whether you are eligible for admission.
