When applying to Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT), your Admission Point Score (APS) plays an important role in determining whether you qualify for admission into your chosen programme. One of the common questions students have is whether Life Orientation counts toward their APS.
At MUT, Life Orientation is not considered in the APS calculation. While it is a compulsory subject at school and contributes to your personal development, it does not add to your admission points when applying to MUT.
How APS is Calculated at MUT
MUT calculates your APS using your six best subjects, excluding Life Orientation. This means:
- Core academic subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, or Languages will be the ones that determine your APS.
- Your chances of being accepted depend mainly on how well you perform in those subjects that are directly relevant to the programme you want to study.
What This Means for Applicants
If you are applying to MUT:
- Concentrate on achieving good marks in your other subjects, as these are what will count toward your admission.
- DO NOT include Life Orientation when calculating your APS.
- Make sure you meet both the APS and subject-specific requirements for your chosen qualification.
