When applying to the Durban University of Technology (DUT), your Admission Point Score (APS) is one of the key criteria used to determine if you qualify for admission into your chosen programme. Many students ask whether Life Orientation contributes to this score.
At DUT, Life Orientation is not included in the APS calculation. While it is a compulsory subject in high school and contributes to your personal development, it does not add points to your APS when you apply at DUT.
How APS is Calculated at DUT
Your APS is worked out using your six best subjects, excluding Life Orientation. This means:
- Core subjects like Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, or Languages will carry more weight.
- Your eligibility for a qualification will depend on how well you perform in those subjects relevant to your chosen programme.
What This Means for Applicants
If you are applying to DUT:
- DO NOT include Life Orientation in your APS calculation.
- Make sure you know the APS and subject requirements for the qualification you want to apply for.
- Focus on achieving strong marks in your other subjects, as these will determine your chances of admission.
