The Diploma in Theatre and Performance at UCT is a three-year qualification offered by the Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies, designed for students who wish to develop professional performance skills in dance and theatre without completing all the academic requirements of the four-year Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Performance degree. The programme covers the same practical studio curriculum as the degree but with a reduced theoretical and research component, preparing students for careers as performers, teachers, community arts facilitators, and theatre makers. Training takes place in UCT's well-equipped performance studios with faculty who are active in South Africa's professional performing arts industry. An audition is the primary criterion for admission and is weighted more heavily than the APS; students who do not receive an offer for the BA(T&P) but demonstrate exceptional audition performance may be offered a place on the Diploma instead.
