Details

The BAccLLB at Stellenbosch University is a unique five-year combined degree that integrates accounting and law — an interfaculty programme offered by the Faculties of Law and Economic and Management Sciences. Graduates leave with two degrees simultaneously, opening career pathways in either law, accounting, or the lucrative intersection of both, such as tax law, forensic accounting, and commercial litigation. With only 35 places per year, it is among the most selective undergraduate programmes at any South African university. National Benchmark Tests (NBT AQL and MAT) are required, with selection in an 80:20 ratio of academic to NBT results.

Career Prospects

  • Chartered Accountant CA(SA) using the BAcc component to pursue SAICA accreditation through a postgraduate accounting qualification and articles at a registered South African audit firm — one of the country’s most prestigious professional designations.
  • Attorney or Advocate qualifying through the LLB component and completing practical training to advise and represent clients in commercial, tax, and financial law matters at South African law firms or in independent practice.
  • Forensic Accountant investigating financial fraud, corruption, and asset misappropriation for South African corporates, government entities, and law enforcement agencies — drawing on the dual expertise in law and accounting.
  • Tax Lawyer advising South African listed companies, multinational groups, and high-net-worth individuals on tax planning, structuring transactions, and resolving disputes with SARS in the Tax Court and High Court.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions Adviser applying dual expertise in financial analysis and corporate law to structuring deals, conducting due diligence, and advising on regulatory approvals in South Africa’s M&A market.
