Details

The Bachelor of Dental Science at Wits is a five-year professional degree training students to prevent, diagnose, and treat conditions of the teeth, mouth, and jaw. All applicants must write the National Benchmark Tests, complete a minimum of 16 hours of job shadowing with a dentist, and submit a certificate of attendance. Students require English, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, AND Life Sciences — the most demanding subject requirements among Wits health sciences programmes. Clinical training is conducted at the Wits Oral Health Centre and affiliated hospitals, providing exposure to the full range of dental disciplines. South Africa has a severe shortage of dentists relative to population, particularly in public health, creating immediate career opportunities for graduates.
