The Student Medical Technician Programme at PathCare Academy is designed for individuals who are passionate about patient care and eager to contribute to the healthcare field. This comprehensive programme, commencing in 2025, aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel as medical technicians.

Participants will undergo both theoretical and practical training. Theoretical training will take place at PathCare Academy in Cape Town and its satellite campuses, while practical training will be conducted at PathCare Laboratories across South Africa. Students will be allocated to laboratories based on available seats.

The programme emphasizes a strong work ethic, teamwork, and responsiveness to customer needs, preparing students for the dynamic and demanding environment of healthcare. Successful candidates will gain valuable experience and insights into the medical technology field, paving the way for a fulfilling career in patient care.

Requirements

Academic Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Physical Science ≥ 50% or Life Science/Biology ≥ 50%
  • Mathematics ≥ 50%

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in English (read, write, and speak)
  • Basic understanding of Afrikaans (read, write)

Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and study rigorously
  • Well-developed work ethic

Job Responsibilities:

  • Willingness to collect and/or process blood and body products
  • Ability to provide excellent service and be responsive to customer needs
  • Willingness to work shifts and after hours as required
