Details

The Bachelor of Social Science in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at UCT is a prestigious and intellectually demanding three-year structured degree that trains students to think rigorously about the most important questions facing South Africa and the world — questions about justice, power, markets, institutions, and the good society. The programme integrates all three disciplines into a coherent curriculum co-designed by the departments of Philosophy, Political Studies, and Economics, and includes the annual PPE Humanities Colloquium and essay competition. UCT's PPE is modelled on the best international traditions of this degree and is uniquely adapted to Africa's postcolonial context, producing graduates who are as comfortable discussing constitutional theory as they are analysing macroeconomic policy or global trade governance. Graduates have gone on to careers in law, consulting, government, finance, journalism, and academia.
