The BTh in Christian Ministry at NWU is a three-year degree offered at Potchefstroom with a distance learning option, developed in consultation with the Governing Body of Theological Education and the Department of Education and Training. The programme provides broad practical theological training in preaching, worship, community ministry, and Christian leadership, equipping graduates to serve in diverse church and para-church contexts across South Africa. The availability of distance learning makes it particularly accessible to working students, ministry apprentices, and church workers across the country who wish to formalise their theological training without relocating. Graduates are prepared for ministry leadership roles across a range of South African Christian denominations and organisations.

Church Minister/Pastor – Lead worship, preach, and provide pastoral care to a South African congregation across urban, suburban, or rural church communities.
Para-Church Ministry Leader – Direct programmes, outreach, and ministry at South African faith-based organisations such as Youth for Christ, Scripture Union, or campus ministries.
Christian School Teacher – Teach religious education, life orientation, or Christian values subjects at South African independent faith-based schools after completing relevant education requirements.
Community Chaplain – Provide spiritual care and pastoral support within community development organisations, hospitals, or social welfare bodies across South Africa.
Distance Ministry Pastor – Lead and disciple a geographically dispersed faith community using digital platforms, serving rural or diaspora South African congregations.
