Details

The Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria is a four-year professional arts degree in the Faculty of Humanities that covers a broad spectrum of professional art practices across studio art and art theory. The two majors of the degree are the studio-based component of art practice (Fine Arts and Professional Art Practice) and a theoretical subject (Visual Culture Studies). Training encompasses painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, new media, photography, and art theory — requiring inter- and multidisciplinary skills and artistic research as increasingly challenging goals are set. Fine Arts at UP offers a highly focused education in contemporary art, treating artists as creative voices who require blended skills including research, technical expertise, project management, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is a highly self-motivated, creative individual who wishes to actively shape the world.

Admission requirements: English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4 (50-59%); Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy: Level 3 (40-49%); APS: 30 (excluding Life Orientation). Admissions take place in July and September. A portfolio review may be required.
