Apply for the 2024 Old Mutual Bursary

Old Mutual, a leading financial services group in Africa, is committed to investing in the future of the continent. One way they do this is by offering bursaries to talented young South Africans who are pursuing studies in Actuarial Science or Accounting Science.

The Old Mutual Bursary Programme offers a number of benefits, including:

To be eligible for the Old Mutual Bursary Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed Matric or currently be in Matric
  • Not have a post-Matric qualification
  • Be under the age of 21
  • Achieve at least 80% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) for Actuarial Science, and at least 70% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) for Chartered Accounting
  • Be studying/have applied at one of the following universities:

For Actuarial Science:

  • North-West University
  • Stellenbosch University
  • University of Cape Town
  • University of Pretoria
  • University of the Free-State
  • University of the Witwatersrand

For Chartered Accounting:

  • Nelson Mandela University
  • North-West University
  • Rhodes University
  • Stellenbosch University
  • University of Cape Town
  • University of Fort Hare
  • University of Johannesburg
  • University of Kwa-Zulu Natal
  • University of Pretoria
  • University of South Africa
  • University of the Free State
  • University of the Western Cape
  • University of the Witwatersrand
  • Be committed to qualifying as an actuary or entering the Old Mutual CA Training Programme, respectively, and working for the company after graduation.

If applicants meet the eligibility requirements, they can apply for the Old Mutual Bursary Programme by downloading and completing the bursary motivation form, then completing the online application which includes a gamified assessment (it is not timed). They will be required to attach a one-page CV.

Shortlisted candidates will be sent a link to complete psychometric assessments.

Finalists will be invited to a selection day where Old Mutual will conduct interviews.

Should finalists be selected after the interview they will receive a provisional offer which will be confirmed once Old Mutual receives their final matric results and proof of acceptance at University for an Actuarial Science or Accounting Science programme.

  • School Reports for Grade 10 – 12
  • Matric Certificate (if applicable)
  • University acceptance/conditional acceptance letter (if applicable)
  • NBT Statement (if applicable)
  • Full Academic Transcript (applicable to current University students only)
  • ID Copy
  • Head and Shoulders Photo

Important notes:

  • Parental/guardian consent is required if applicants are under 18.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from under-represented designated groups, including candidates with disabilities.
  • Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged background or demonstrate financial need.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
