The Bachelor of Engineering (Extended Programme) at the University of Pretoria is designed for students who show potential for engineering study but require additional academic support to succeed in the demanding four-year engineering curriculum. The extended programme provides a foundation year that builds mathematical, scientific, and academic literacy skills before students join the mainstream engineering programme. Students who successfully complete the foundation year and meet the required academic thresholds — 70% in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, and 60% for Languages — may transfer into the standard four-year BEng programme. This pathway ensures that talented students from under-resourced schooling backgrounds have access to one of Africa's most prestigious and technically demanding qualifications.
Admission requirements: English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 5 (60-69%); Mathematics: Level 5 (60-69%); Physical Science: Level 5 (60-69%); APS: 33 (excluding Life Orientation).
