The Department of Tourism invites South African students to apply for the 2026 External Bursary Programme. The bursary is available to students studying towards a Diploma, Degree, Honours, MSc, MTech or Master’s qualification in identified priority fields. The bursary is awarded for the remainder of the approved study period and is renewable annually based on satisfactory academic performance.

The bursary will be awarded for the remainder of the approved study period and renewed annually, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Successful candidates will be required to sign a formal bursary contract with the Department of Tourism.

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be studying or intending to study towards a Diploma, Degree, Honours, MSc, MTech or Master’s qualification in one of the listed fields
  • Be registered or accepted at a recognised institution of higher learning

Documents Required:

Applicants must submit:

  • Fully completed bursary application form
  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Certified copies of academic certificates
  • Certified academic transcripts
  • Proof of registration or admission letter
  • Proof of parents’/guardian’s income (or affidavit if unemployed)
  • Motivational letter
  • Research proposal (Honours and Master’s applicants, where applicable)
