The undergraduate Bachelor of Laws at UCT is a four-year degree widely regarded as one of the most demanding and most respected legal qualifications in South Africa. UCT's Faculty of Law is distinguished by its commitment to constitutional values, social justice, and rigorous legal scholarship, producing graduates who shape legislation, lead courtrooms, and run corporate legal departments. The curriculum covers all pillars of South African law — contracts, property, delict, criminal law, constitutional law, company law, and procedural law — while developing the ability to read and critically evaluate complex legislation and cases, write with logical precision, and solve legal problems under pressure. A very high APS is required as the degree is intensely competitive, with applications far exceeding available places. Non-citizens should note that an LLB does not automatically entitle them to practise in South Africa. NBT Academic Literacy at Proficient level is required.
