The Bachelor of Environmental Sciences at the University of Venda provides students with an interdisciplinary understanding of natural systems, environmental management, and the human impacts on ecosystems. Situated in the Limpopo Province — a region of exceptional biodiversity and significant environmental pressures from mining, agriculture, and climate change — this programme equips graduates to assess, manage, and mitigate environmental challenges. Students study ecology, environmental law, geographic information systems (GIS), pollution management, and natural resource governance, preparing for careers in both the public and private sectors.

Environmental Manager – Develops and implements environmental management plans and compliance programmes for mining companies, municipalities, and industrial operations under NEMA.
Environmental Impact Assessment Practitioner – Conducts EIA processes and reports for property development, infrastructure, and resource extraction projects as required by South African law.
Conservation Officer – Manages protected areas, monitors biodiversity, and implements conservation strategies at SANParks, provincial conservation authorities, and private reserves.
GIS Analyst – Uses geographic information systems to map, monitor, and model environmental conditions for government departments, consulting firms, and research institutions.
Environmental Compliance Inspector – Monitors organisations for adherence to South African environmental legislation and regulations on behalf of DFFE and provincial environmental authorities.
