The BEng in Materials Engineering (Polymer Technology) at TUT focuses on the science and engineering of plastics, composites, rubber, and other polymer materials — covering raw material processing, product development, characterisation, quality assurance, and marketing. South Africa's plastics and packaging industry contributes significantly to manufacturing GDP, and polymer engineers are in demand in automotive components, packaging, agricultural films, construction materials, and the rapidly growing recycling sector. Students engage in cooperative education with polymer processors, chemical companies, and quality laboratories. The programme leads to ECSA accreditation and supports registration as an Engineering Technologist.
