Details

The purpose of the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dental Technology (BHSc in Dental Technology) is to produce a Dental Technologist who will be able to manufacture and repair dental prostheses and appliances. Learners will gain detailed knowledge of all four disciplines as required by the South African Dental Technician Council (SADTC) namely: Complete Removable Prosthodontics, Fixed Prosthodontics, Removable Partial Prosthodontics and Complete Removable Prosthodontics, which promote an in-depth understanding of key concepts of the profession and also the application of principles and theories of Dental Technology.

  • Dental technologist working in a private or public dental laboratory, fabricating crowns, bridges, dentures, and orthodontic appliances for patients across South Africa.
  • Clinical dental technologist operating an independent practice to provide complete and partial dentures directly to patients, as permitted under South African Health Professions Council regulations.
  • Dental technology educator or lecturer at a South African university of technology or TVET college, training the next generation of dental technology professionals.
  • Quality assurance specialist or product manager at a dental materials manufacturing or distribution company operating in the South African and broader African dental market.
  • Dental technology entrepreneur owning and managing a commercial dental laboratory, supplying prosthetic and restorative devices to dental practices throughout South Africa.
