Overview/Details

The W&RSETA Bursary Scheme supports unemployed South African citizens under 35 years old who have been accepted or registered for retail-related qualifications at public or private TVET and HET institutions. The programme prioritises students in qualifications linked to Sectoral Occupational Demand (Hard-to-Fill Vacancies) and New and Emerging Occupations as identified in the 2026/27 Sector Skills Plan.

Bursary Covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Books and stationery
  • Student allowance / incidental support

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen under the age of 35
  • Must be accepted or registered for study in 2026 in one of the approved fields
  • Preference given to “missing middle” students (parental income between R350,000 – R600,000)

Qualifying Fields of Study Include:

Retail-related and sector-priority qualifications such as:

  • Food Technology / Food Security
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Financial Accounting / Management
  • Human Resources
  • Credit Management
  • Marketing Management
  • Operations Management
  • Clothing Technology / Production
  • Business Management / Administration
  • ICT / 4IR Programmes

Approved Study Programmes:

  • Higher Certificates, Diplomas, or Degrees (NQF 5–7)
  • NCV Levels 2–4
  • NATED qualifications (N4–N6) at TVET colleges
  • Occupational Qualifications (NQF 5–7, not learnerships)
