The City of Johannesburg is offering 200 bursaries to South African youth who permanently reside in Johannesburg, enabling them to pursue full-time undergraduate studies in a wide range of fields. This initiative supports youth development and skills growth within the city. The bursary covers tuition, registration fees, prescribed books, and study materials, with a funding limit of R40,000 per academic year. It is renewable annually based on academic performance and is not available for postgraduate studies.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must permanently reside in Johannesburg
  • Must be applying for or accepted at an accredited South African tertiary institution
  • Must be studying a qualification of at least one year (not postgraduate)
  • Must have strong academic performance (selection is strictly merit-based)
  • Must submit:
    • Certified copy of South African ID
    • Most recent academic record
    • Proof of Johannesburg residence (e.g., water & lights bill)
    • Parents’ proof of income OR death certificate/affidavit if applicable
