The Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Care and Education at the University of Pretoria is a four-year professional degree that prepares graduates to care for and educate young children from birth to Grade R in early childhood development (ECD) centres and community settings. Students develop expertise in child development theory, play-based learning, family engagement, nutrition and health in ECD, curriculum for young children, and the management of ECD programmes. South Africa's ECD sector is undergoing significant expansion under government's recognition of the critical importance of the first 1,000 days and early childhood stimulation for long-term development. Career Prospects

ECD Practitioner / Teacher – Provide quality care and early childhood education to South African children aged 0–6 at community-based ECD centres, crèches, and government-funded pre-school programmes.
