Details

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences at NWU is a three-year degree offered at the Mahikeng and Potchefstroom campuses with diverse subject combinations across chemistry, microbiology, botany, geography, geology, zoology, and tourism. Students develop scientific skills for monitoring, assessing, and managing environmental systems — skills increasingly critical in a South Africa facing mining rehabilitation obligations, water scarcity, climate change, and biodiversity loss. The National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and its associated legislation create significant demand for environmental assessment and compliance professionals across mining, energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. Graduates contribute to environmental consultancies, government environmental departments, and conservation organisations.
