The Bachelor of Development in Planning and Management at the University of Limpopo prepares graduates to plan, manage, and facilitate development processes that address South Africa's persistent challenges of poverty, spatial inequality, and uneven economic growth. Students study development theory, project management, community facilitation, environmental planning, and monitoring and evaluation, equipping them to work at the interface of government, civil society, and communities in implementing transformative development programmes. Development Project Manager – Plans, coordinates, and monitors development projects in infrastructure, rural livelihoods, and community services for government departments, NGOs, and development finance institutions such as the DBSA and IDC.
Community Development Facilitator – Facilitates participatory community planning and development processes for municipalities, provincial government departments, and civil society organisations in rural and peri-urban settings.
Monitoring and Evaluation Officer – Designs and implements M&E frameworks for government development programmes, tracking outcomes and reporting to the DPME and programme funders.
Urban and Rural Planner – Develops spatial development frameworks and land use plans for municipalities in compliance with SPLUMA, requiring SACPLAN professional registration.
Environmental Planning Officer – Integrates environmental sustainability considerations into development planning, ensuring compliance with NEMA and the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act.
