Details

The Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Mpumalanga is a four-year professional degree that prepares students to provide social services, support vulnerable populations, and advocate for social justice in one of South Africa's most under-served provinces. Students develop expertise in social welfare policy, counselling, community development, child protection, and social research, with extensive supervised field placements in communities, NGOs, and government social development offices. Mpumalanga has significant social development challenges — including poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, domestic violence, and child neglect — making qualified social workers urgently needed across the province. Graduates are registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) and are equipped to make meaningful differences in the lives of vulnerable South Africans.
