Details

The BSc in Civil Engineering at UCT trains engineers to design and manage the infrastructure that holds South African society together — water systems, roads, bridges, buildings, and urban environments. The curriculum, substantially redesigned in 2025, is structured around project-linked learning that draws on locally relevant examples while preparing graduates for global practice. Students engage with geotechnics, hydraulics, environmental engineering, transportation planning, structural analysis, and construction management, and the final year culminates in a five-week large-scale design project and a nine-week individual research project. UCT civil engineering graduates are eligible to register with ECSA as professional engineers and are internationally recognised under the Washington Accord.
