The Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Chemical Engineering at Wits is an accredited four-year professional degree that trains students to design, operate, and manage large-scale industrial conversion processes. The curriculum covers thermodynamics, chemical reactor theory, transport phenomena, mass-transfer operations, process control, and chemical plant design, with elective pathways in extractive metallurgy or advanced chemical engineering. Wits Chemical Engineering graduates work across South Africa's petroleum refining, plastics, fertiliser, explosives, and food processing sectors, as well as in environmental engineering. The programme includes a common first year shared across all engineering disciplines, enabling students to transfer between specialisations if needed.
