The Extended Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences at NWU is a four-year programme offering an extended pathway into mathematics and statistics for students who demonstrate strong mathematical potential but need an additional preparatory year to be ready for degree-level study. The extended curriculum focuses on building the abstract reasoning, calculus, algebra, and problem-solving skills that underpin the full Mathematical Sciences degree. South Africa has a persistent shortage of mathematics-competent graduates, and this extended programme is designed to expand the pipeline of mathematicians, statisticians, and quantitative analysts by providing access to students who might otherwise not enter this field. Graduates earn the same full BSc qualification and are competitive candidates for postgraduate study and quantitative careers.
