The Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences at Wits is a demanding programme designed for students with exceptional mathematical ability, covering pure mathematics, analysis, algebra, topology, and mathematical physics at a deep theoretical level. All applicants must write the National Benchmark Tests, and applicants with 44+ APS and English Level 6, Mathematics Level 7, and Physical Sciences Level 7 may be wait-listed. Actuary – Applies advanced mathematical techniques to financial risk quantification for South African insurance and financial services companies, registered with the Actuarial Society of South Africa.
Quantitative Researcher – Develops systematic trading strategies and quantitative models for South African and international hedge funds and investment banks.
Cryptographer – Designs and analyses cryptographic systems for South African financial institutions, cybersecurity companies, and government intelligence agencies.
Statistical Consultant – Provides expert statistical analysis and modelling for South African research institutions, government departments, and pharmaceutical companies conducting clinical trials.
